Just below Mynydd Dinas is the promontory known as Dinas Island. It isn't an island at all; in fact it is connected to the line of the coast by a low lying marsh. The Preseli Hills are the highest in Pembrokeshire and are composed of Ordovician shale and mudstone that has been compressed to form tough slate.

Dinas is famous on the West Wales coast for its birds, with ravens, chough and herring, greater and lesser black backed gulls to be seen in the winter. In summer razorbills, guillemots, fulmars and shag breed on the cliffs (a good spot to watch overlooks Needle Rock). Away from the cliffs there are stonechats and warblers.

Dinas Cross village is a long linear settlement midway between Fishguard and Newport. The village itself is pretty, with some neat stone built cottages set back from the road. There's also a garage, a good village shop and a pub called The Ship Aground.

Dinas Island Farm is a 400 acre coastal farm situated on Dinas Head between the beaches of Pwllgwaelod and Cwm-yr-Eglwys. Hendre Farm is an 80 acre small holding situated just outside Newport. The properties are just 3 miles apart and are situated the North Pembrokeshire Coastline within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

Dinas Island is a gorgeous circular walk on the Wales Coast Path. On this occasion I needed to be in Pembrokeshire for a meeting, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity for a walk. This made the perfect option since I didn't have a full day, and the fact it was a circular walk was even better.
